Business continuity describes the processes and procedures a company puts in place to ensure that essential functions can continue during and after a disaster.  Such as natural disasters or equipment failure.  With proper planning you can prevent interruption of mission-critical services, and reestablish full functioning as swiftly and smoothly as possible. No matter where you keep your data and information you want to rest assured that if the event of a disaster or in some cases a computer crash, your data is safe, secure and recoverable.  Anything your business does on a daily basis should have a Business Continuity Plan. There are several areas that are part of a Business Continuity plan:  Departments that are most crucial to be up and running Security Management Document Management Communications Management and systems A Business Continuity Plan consists of a set of instructions (including policy and procedures) outlining what you need to do in the event of an emergency situation so as not to hinder you business.  Part of this would also include testing practices and thinking ahead by learning from past disasters.
